Bad food and cook service....
On Sep 19, our family of 5 finally had a chance to visit the Kahului Zippys. We figured it was time enough that the crowd would have lessened by now. Wrong. But it wasn't as bad as after the opening. From the Take-out side, we ordered 2 loco mocos, 1 mushroom burger, oriental chix salad, & a saimin. It took (and I'm really not exaggerating) 45 min for us to get this order!!! And this was with constant inquiries with the staff about our order every 15 min!!! All I got from one of the girls at the counter as an explaination was that since we had burger orders that it was taking a little longer cause the burgers are made fresh, not frozen. After the first 15 min it was ok, but after half an hour & then 45 min later, pls!!! Do they need to kill a cow for every burger order??? I think we would have forgiven this event if the food that took 45 min to prepare was close to being delicious, but yet another disappointment! The salad had browned lettuce & sick looking chicken. Please train your cook staff better!!!!! Quick!!!

Hi,
For me, the service has always been good. Some of the foods, on the other hand need some attention. The fried items, especially the chicken in the Zip Pac, buckets, and specials like the mochiko chicken, always seem to be overdone- way beyond crispy, resulting in a rock hard exterior. I also tried the roast beef special. It was horrible. The meat was mushy, dry & flaky. Every bite. I'm so afraid to try other specials because I don't want to be disappointed. The Zip Min was good- just the wun tun were kind of doughey (maybe under cooked?) But, I have to give you props on the items off the daily menu! The saimin is really tasty and fresh (and a great value - $3 for a large!!) Spaghetti is my fav, along with the chili of course. Hamburger steak is ono, as well as the Zip Pac (sans the fried chicken). I see there's now additional parking behind the restaurant - thank you! I hated parking on the dirt/grass (my car would get so dirty!) I do have one question which a group of us can't seem to figure out. Why are prices higher in the dining room side? Is it for the table service? (but that's why we tip). Utility use? (water/electricity to wash dishes) Overall, I'm totally happy Maui finally has a Zippy's. Gotta go now - gonna take out and try the chili frank!! |

Thank you for taking the time to write us and giving feedback. I will forward your concern to our Kahului store manager to follow-up with staff regarding the preparation of fried chicken, mochiko chicken, roast beef and zip min. Regarding your question, "why are prices higher in the dining room side?" The restaurant pricing reflects higher operating costs for the restaurant side.
