Salads, sandwiches, and burgers are not the only food that vegetarians eat.
The TLC (Tofu Lettuce Cucumber) Salad sounds very distasteful.
Aloha Hawaiigirl888,

Please see the above response to KailuaGrl's post. We will be offering more "healthier options" in the near future. In the mean time, if you haven't already tried our TLC (tofu, lettuce, cucumber) salad, please give it a chance. We've had very positive response on it since it's introduction about a year ago. I admit, I too was skeptical before trying it, but after giving it a try, it's my favorite of all the salads we offer!

I really feel for all the folks who want to eat something satisfying and healthy at Zippy's. Sometimes I don't feel like my favorite chili frank plate either, and want to eat something delicious yet healthful. Unfortunately, Zippy's doesn't have a plate lunch that fits into that category and I end up walking out because I don't want to overindulge. My suggestions for a healthy plate lunch: low sodium kalua chicken or turkey with or without cabbage, chicken long rice, and a vegetarian lau lau with vegetables like purple sweet potato. My dad had a vegetarian lau lau from Da Kitchen on Maui, but I think that was just an accident, LOL.

vegetarian laulau

Oh, thanks for reminding me of one of my all-time favorite dishes. I had vegetarian laulau (from the imu) at a Hawaiian conference on the big island and it was so ono. It had taro, sweet potato, breadfruit and onion. I don't know if Zippy's could do that but if they could I would be there at least once a week!

Whatever happened to Dr. Shintani's diet?

I'm looking for a fast food place where I can buy healthy good food for my body! I remember Dr. Shintani's meals were at Zippys, and it was so comforting to my mind to have it there as an alternative to cooking! Now even moreso it is important, as since my dad passed away, my mom isn't cooking at home, and eating out more often. In fact she visits Zippys EVERY day! (it is her social spot). She has diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension, so I really want her to take care of herself. I know that if healthy meals are available, she would buy them. I also would like a good place to run to when I don't have the time. Would you please, please, PLEASE consider bringing back the Shintani menu? I think it would benefit Hawaii a LOT! Thank you so much! I have humble gratitude for Zippys, always an island "local" #1 place! Let's take care of "local" peoples' health too.

I really enjoy different salads and would love to have an option for a smaller salad (other than tossed) as a side to a soup or small meal. Could that be worked out?

Dear Taomaster,

Thank you for your feedback and please thank your mom for being a loyal Zippy’s customer!

We discontinued the Dr. Shintani’s line because it became inefficient for our manufactory plant to produce the Shintani items at such low volume.

We have other alternatives on the menu such as: fresh catch of the day, Tofu Burger, Tuna Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, Oriental Chicken Salad and Chef Salad.

Thank you again in your continued patronage!

items i would eat...

chicken kastu with chilli all over....

mix plate with..katsu, teri beef, and mahi mahi.....with gravy all over....( as an option)....
like the zip pac..but the combination is different...and dont think a zip pac with gravy all over would work...for me....

a combination chilli with cornbread.....i actually eat this, but then also have to stand in 2 lines vs. 1 line to get what I want....at napoleans....

apple napple./ apple turnover with a slice of cheese on top....

Aloha rice rice man,

You certainly have some very interesting combinations! I like the idea of a "Zip Pac" with katsu - I will definitely bring that up at the next menu-planning meeting.

Just FYI, you shouldn't have to stand in two different lines to get your chili & cornbread. You can order both your chili and cornbread from the fast food counter.

Thank you for your feedback!

How bout a Donburi type bowl, like Oyakodon, Gyudon(beef/onion), or Katsudon? It's a known Hawaii dish, and I'd think it'd do well after people go out, etc.

I'd also think that a combination plate would do well. People could make their own combinations(any 2 items), of stuff that's not normally a combination on the menu. Similar to what lunchwagons do.

I'd also like to see the specials extended to 24 hours. A lot of times, the night crowd might want something on the specials menu but cannot order it.

Aloha "Vortex"

Thank you for your feedback! Our Okazyua locations (McCully, Pearlridge and Ala Moana) offer a few "donburi"-type dishes which include a spicy ahi bowl and a chicken bowl. Your request for other donburi options will be forwarded to our Menu Planning Committee, as well as your request for a "create-your-own" combination plate.

Regarding your comment about extending specials' availability 24 hours, I will forward this to our Senior Management for review. In the past, I myself have wanted to order a "special item" but was an hour too late...!

Mahalo,
Nathan
