plastic vs. paper

wish zippy's would go back to using paper to package their meals....the plastic containers do the job, but when i think of a plate lunch i always think of paper....

even though the taste of the food is probably the same....the plate lunch in the card board box was always tastier to me then the plate lunch in the current platic container......

also felt like this about mcdonalds....when they were serving their deluxe burgers in styraform containers....the big mac just tastes better out of the card board box......am glad that it is back in a biodegradable paper container....

Aloha rice rice man,

Thank you for your comments. We are reviewing our line of containers and have been evaluating more "earth friendly" choices, which would include post-consumer paper/biodegradable products. We will definitely take your suggestions into further consideration.

I don't like the current plate lunch containers at all. Because the plastic bag is too small, the cover tends to come off when I am carrying it and I have had problems with my chili spilling out of the container. I actually had less problems with the old school set up of a paper plate inside the paper box. And since there is only a limited amount of space in Hawaii's landfills, I'm all for a biodegradable container, too.

Also have the same problem with the new containers. Everytime I order the Korean chicken the sauce always leaks out and into the bag.

Has Zippy's considered partnering with Styrophobia to provide Earth-friendly packaging, utensils, etc.?

Yes, it would be an increased cost, but I think it would be worth it, for the publicity and the chance to show Hawaii's people that you care about the environment. Plus, Styrophobia is a local company, so you still would be supporting a local business.

I have the same problem with the plastic containers leaking. It also seems that with my take out orders the plastic containers allows my food to get cold before I reach home, and the containers are made so that the food portions are smaller (but the price isn't small). I miss the paper plate in the paper box...bring it back....or find a better container than what is being used now!

Disaster Averted

I ordered the burrito with chili coupon special today and was worried about the chili spilling out of the container as usual. I asked the nice young man (Michael M. on the receipt) at the cash register if he could put my container in a box, then a plastic bag so I could avoid the leakage problem. He said he would see what he could do. The order came in one of the large plastic containers and wouldn't fit inside the cardboard box, so he put rubber bands around the container so the cover wouldn't slide off like it usually does when I carry it. It worked out really well, I didn't have a problem with leakage. Thanks and kudos to Michael for his help!

Now, if something could be done about the regular plate lunch container...

Question of the Month Winner

As mentioned previously there's only so much space left in the landfills. Costs might go up a few pennies for a biodegradable container but it's all for the preservation of the `aina.

i would also like to see zippys use biodegradeable products including utensils and containers. I feel guilty throwing away a bunch of plastic everytime I eat out. Other companies using items like Potato forks and corn containers seem to be doing fine and the functionality of the products are the same.

I know it might cost a little more but i would gladly pay a little more.
